From French nubile, from Latin nūbilis ("marriageable"), from nūbō, from Proto-Indo-European *snewbʰ- ("to marry, to wed"). Possibly cognate with Ancient Greek νύμφη ("bride, young wife, nymph") (English nymph), but this is disputed.
