Attested in English since the late 1930s, from Yiddish קישקע, from Slavic—Polish kiszka, Russian кишка́, or Ukrainian ки́шка. Ultimately from Proto-Slavic *kyša, *kyšьka. Related to Sanskrit कोष्ठ and possibly Ancient Greek κύστις.
