Borrowed from Latin bdellium, from Ancient Greek βδέλλιον, itself perhaps from Hebrew בדולח, cognate with Akkadian 𒁉𒁺𒌨𒄷 or from Sanskrit भिदुर ("something brittle, fragile, easily split or broken").
