Origin
From Russian узбек, from Uzbek oʻzbek. Further etymology is uncertain; possibly from Turkic öz + Sogdian βγ; the latter from Proto-Indo-Aryan *bʰagás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰagás. The first element is often thought to be equivalent to English Oghuz.
