Origin

• Borrowed from Arabic سِنْدِبَاد, from Middle Persian (compare Persian سندباد), possibly borrowed from Sanskrit सिद्धपथ ("path of the Blessed").
• According to folk etymology, from سند + باد, whence also the Arabic هِنْدِبَاد.
