city, county seat Orange County (county) Florida (state) USA (country); see Orlando, Florida.
Origin
From Italian Orlando ("Roland"), ultimately from Proto-West Germanic *Hrōþiland. The Florida city has gone by the name since 1857, perhaps in honour of the soldier Orlando Reeves, whom Seminoles killed there in 1835. (Previously, it had been settled in 1844 as Jernigan.) Roland.
