  • The ancient or older language of Tagalog mostly spoken and sparsely written in the Philippines from about 900 to 1521 , when it soon developed into Classical Tagalog after Christianization by the Spanish arrival. It developed from Proto-Philippine, with heavy influence from Classical Sanskrit, Old Malay, Middle Tamil and Late Middle Chinese (either Hokkien or Cantonese) and was written using the Baybayin script.
