Proper Noun

  • A geopolitical entity under British administration, originally consisting of what is now Israel, Judea, Samaria, (the West Bank), and Jordan, which existed from 1920 to 1948. In 1922, the Trans-Jordan Memorandum established the Emirate of Transjordan in the area of Mandatory Palestine east of the Jordan River. In 1946, the Emirate of Transjordan formally became the country of Jordan, officially removing the area from Mandatory Palestine.
