Origin

• Borrowed from Persian خوزستان, from خوز, name of the indigenous people of the region, and the suffix ـستان, or borrowed wholly from Middle Persian hwcstʾn' / 𐭧𐭥𐭰𐭮𐭲𐭭, itself from hwc + -stʾn'. The first component is from Old Persian 𐎢𐎺𐎩 ("Elam, Elamite"), or from the name of Susa.
