One of the ethnolinguistic groups in the Philippines.
Proper Noun
A language spoken principally on the island of Luzon.
Adjective
Of or pertaining to the Ilocano.
Origin
Philippine Spanish, from Iloco/Iloko, the native word for the inhabitants of Ilocos + the Spanish suffix -ano. Iloco comes from an old Ilocano prefix i-, and either lukong, or luek/look. Some suggest that it comes from Tagalog ilog, but this is highly dubious, for it goes against the customs in naming groups and places; + English region.
