Quintus Horatius Flaccus, a poet and philosopher of the Roman Augustan Age. Born 65 in Venusia, died 27 November, 8 in Rome. Horace was a contemporary and friend of Virgil. Although of low birth, Horace was admired by the EmperorAugustus and was offered, but refused, to become his private secretary.
