  • Borrowed from Spanish Etlatongo, from a language (equivalent to Classical Nahuatl), a calque from a Mixtec language (cf. Teposcolula Mixtec Yucunduchi). The diminutive suffix -tōnco was added to distinguish it from Etlān.
