Origin
Borrowed from Albanian Bajram Curri. Ultimately named after Bajram Curri, a freedom fighter who struggled for Albanian independence and ethnic Albanians.
Curri was famously sacrificed by his friends in 1925 while hiding in a cave near the village of Dragobi, in the Valbonë valley northwest of the town, to avoid being captured by the surrounding Zogist forces, which had been pursuing him for upwards of three years. In 1952, the town was renamed from Kolgecaj to Bajram Curri.
